Abstract
Inthisstudytheauthorsinvestigatedexperimentallythebehaviourofprefabricatedreinforcedconcretesandwichpanels(RCSPs)undersimulatedseismicloadingthroughalargeexperimentalcampaign.Testswerecarriedoutonsinglefull-scalepanelswithorwithoutopenings,simulatingthebehaviouroflateralresistingcantileverandfixed-endwalls.Testswerealsocarriedoutona2-storeyfull-scaleH-shapedstructureconstructedbyindividualpanelswhichwereproperlyjoinedtogether.Theperformanceandfailuremodeofallpanelstestedrevealedstrongcouplingbetweenflexureandshearduetothesquat-typegeometryofthepanels.Howeverduetotheirwell-detailedreinforcement,allpanelsexhibitedonlyarelativelygradualstrengthandstiffnessdegradationandinnocasedidanypanelsufferfromsuddenshearfailure.TheprefabricatedwallsofthestructuralsysteminvestigatedhereinseemtomeetalltherequirementsofEurocode8forwallstobedesignedas‘‘largelightlyreinforcedwalls’’;howeverthisassumptionshouldbesupportedwithfurtherexperimentalandanalyticalstudies.
